In terms of activity within the functions of the National Reference Laboratory regarding animal and animal product residues (Spanish Royal Decree 1749/1998 of 31 July), it is worth noting the organisation of intercomparison tests geared towards the laboratories of Spain’s Autonomous Communities that participate in the National Residue Monitoring Plan. For this reason, the National Food Centrehas organised proficiency tests for screening and post-screening of antibiotic residues in meat, chloramphenicol in milk, sulphonomides in pork muscle, anabolics in urine, b-agonists in urine and in retina, quinolones in chicken muscle, etc.
The CNA has also taken part in organising an intercomparison study for the determination of Ochratoxin A in paprika, with the participation of Official Laboratories and the industrial sector of the Autonomous Community of Murcia.
Likewise, the CNA collaborates with other bodies in order to conduct specific studies on certain methodologies. It also works with international organisations in research and control projects.
In the field of residues from veterinary medicinal products, the CNA assiduously participates in international intercomparison tests organised by Community Reference Laboratories and other organisations such as FAPAS, Progetto Trieste, The University of Gante, etc.In the field of residues from plant health products and dioxins, the CNA participates in national and international intercomparison trials (FAPAS,TESTQUAL,etc.) that involve both proficiency tests and certification tests for reference materials.
The CNA is also assiduously involved in international interlaboratory tests organised by the Community Reference Laboratory for fishing products (CEFAS) in the United Kingdom, the result of which are disseminated to Spanish Autonomous Communities’ laboratories.
