This course is taking place over the whole of this week at the summer campus of Madrid’s Complutense University at El Escorial in Madrid. Organised jointly be the National Consumer Institute and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, bodies belonging to the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.

The Foro Interalimentario [Interfood Forum] is an entity dedicated to improving food education and information of consumers and society in general; it has taken part as a sponsor and will contribute with several addresses during the week.

The course was inaugurated by the Secretary General for Health and Consumer Affairs, Pilar Farjas, who is also President of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition; she welcomed participants, also congratulating the Complutense Foundation on the 25th anniversary of Madrid Complutense University organising summer courses; she went on to outline the programme of each day of this interesting 1st Consumption, Food Safety and Nutrition course.

Also participating in the event was the Vice President of the Foro Interalimentario, Mr. Emilio Loriente who expressed his gratitude for being able to participate in this academic activity, as this falls within the scope of the actions of the Association he represents.

On behalf of the Complutense University, Mercedes Molina, the Vicerector of Technology Transfer and Director of the Complutense Foundation, underlined the importance of the transfer of knowledge to society and the need for continuous training throughout one’s professional life.

The inaugural act was also attended by Angela López de Sá, Executive Director of the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition, and Carlos Arnaiz, Sub-Director General of Coordination, Consumption Quality and Transfers and Institutional Cooperation of the National Consumer Institute, who are both directors of this course.

More than 60 students are taking part, representing the food industry itself, professionals from the Autonomous Regions, Local Administration and other academic areas.
